Empica: How long have you been in your current role?

Hannah: Two years now, the time has flown by!

E: What did you do before coming to Bristol?

H: I was the editor at Food & Drink magazine, deputy editor at Think Publishing and then worked as features writer at the IoD's Director magazine.

E: Why should businesses engage with the Bristol Post?

H: It's the city's biggest local newspaper and has a reach of 15 million users a month on our website.

E: What are the ways businesses can engage with you?

H: Feel free to email ideas over or they can tweet me @Hannahjbaker (but please don't call!)

E: What do you enjoy most about your role?

H: I get to meet so many interesting people running really diverse companies - from start-ups just beginning on their business journey to established giants who have overcome all sorts of challenges to succeed.

E: What’s been your best work achievement to date?

H: Being named Financial/Business Journalist of the Year (Regional) 2019

E: What’s the biggest story you’ve worked on?

H: There are many! But I am most proud of the work I have done around highlighting the issues around mental health in the workplace

E: What are your favourite types of stories to write about?

H: It's all about the human side of the story - so any business that has an interesting journey/story to tell! But I also write a lot about tech, retail, women in business, mental health and workplace culture

E: What should people think about before contacting you with a story?

H: Think about a timely hook (a reason to write the story) and why it's good for the Bristol Post/Business Live. If it's the Post, make it clear where the business is based and your connection to Bristol as the Post is a hyper-local newspaper! Also, always send high res images if you can.

E: What’s your preferred method of contact? Email, telephone, social media?

H: Email (keep on sending me reminders if I don't reply the first time!)

E: What’s the quickest way to get on your wrong side?

H: Please don't call me on a Tuesday, as it's press day for the business supplement so I am usually too busy to chat. Wednesdays are always better!

E: How do you like to spend time away from work?

H: Doing yoga and painting. I find it relaxes the mind!
